Josh Crandall-person
As a native son of Kentucky and raised in the heart of everything bourbon, basketball, and horses, I have a deep love for its people and the ties that bind this community. Driven by curiosity and a desire to always be learning, I’ve lived many “lives” along the way, each one a distinct experience adding a colorful piece to my personal mosaic.
In my professional path I’ve ventured through architecture, carpentry, furniture design, and historic preservation. After architecture, my curiosity and focus turned to the human scale of design and how people interact with the world around them. This is what drew me to industrial design, design management, and ultimately, user experience.
As an entrepreneur, I’ve founded or co-founded two startups and immersed myself in the startup ecosystem through workshops, pitch competitions, hackathons, and global service jams. Along the way, I’ve shared what I’ve learned by teaching, guiding, and mentoring design students and early-career professionals.
Being raised the son of a Methodist preacher and a choir director-turned-therapist, I found that public speaking, creativity pursuits, and empathy for others came naturally to me. These skills would all serve me well throughout my career in product design and in my entrepreneurial pursuits.
My personal interests and pursuits have been just as diverse - I’ve been a part owner of a music club, directed a large charity ball, founded company softball and bowling teams, and am a member of an award-winning competitive BBQ team. I also am a proud member of the Big Blue Nation (Go Cats!) and enjoy gaming in all forms.
Life truly has been a mosaic, and I can’t wait to lay the next piece…
